Ongoing Speculations Surround BJP Leadership

The discussions regarding the presidency of the BJP continue to intensify, with numerous names being floated. Despite the current president, JP Nadda, having his term extended multiple times, speculation remains rife. Among the prominent figures in the race are Bhupendra Yadav and Dharmendra Pradhan. However, a surprising name has emerged in the mix: Arjun Ram Meghwal, a minister in the Modi government.

Arjun Ram Meghwal: A Notable Candidate

Meghwal, a former civil servant from Bikaner, Rajasthan, was honored with the Best MP award in 2013. He currently serves as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Heavy Industries, and Public Enterprises, while also overseeing the Ministry of Law and Justice in the current Modi cabinet. Recognized as a trusted ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Meghwal has strong ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and enjoys considerable support from the organization.

Significant Background and Contributions

An additional advantage for Meghwal is his representation of the Dalit community, having been elected three times from a Lok Sabha constituency reserved for Scheduled Castes. Notably, he is regarded as one of the BJP's key floor managers during parliamentary sessions, particularly in addressing challenges posed by the opposition. Meghwal has played a crucial role in passing significant legislation, including the abrogation of Article 370.

Other Contenders in the Race

Following Meghwal, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is viewed as another leading candidate, with a strong chance of becoming the most favored and consensus candidate to succeed JP Nadda. Additionally, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and current Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also considered a significant contender alongside Meghwal and Khattar.
